Seeking advice on training deaf people in Africa

Hallos! I write from Kenya to inquire on how to establish a D/deaf self-help group and a training institution.

At the moment I am in a position to teach them both bead-work (handicraft) and introduction to computers. Where do I start?

Deafauntie says:

Dear Father D,

There is a lot of good work being done for deaf people in Africa supported by different countries around the world – far too many to list here.

I do know that most organisations and projects focus on one African country rather than spread themselves too thinly across the continent. I am sure you are in touch with your local non-governmental organisation (NGO) and other organisations such as VSO.

It is of course much better if people such as yourself start projects from within and ask for support from elsewhere. I will ask around and see if I can locate any British deaf people who have worked in Kenya who may be happy to link up with you. Good luck.
